Popular Ideas For Low Cost Wedding Venues

The importance of planning a wedding on a budget is to stick to the budget from the very beginning. As one of the very first planning decisions you will need to make is your venue, it may be a good idea to pick a budget venue, defining your attitude towards spending from the very start. Even if you are not planning a budget wedding you could choose a budget venue leaving you with more money to spend on other areas of such as your honeymoon. A budget wedding venue can also be stylish. Here are a few great ideas for an inexpensive location for your wedding.

Many parks owned by the city, county or state often allow you to use their facilities for a wedding. You will generally be required to pay a small fee only, but in some parks you may have to purchase a special license for your function. The great thing about having your wedding in a park is that it will require very little decorating. Most parks are already quite beautiful areas with a fantastic array of wildlife and plants. If the park has particularly striking blooms it will significantly reduce the amount of money you have to spend on flowers for your wedding.

As well as this, if you are having a non-religious ceremony, or a ceremony that is not adhering to strict religious rule, for example, you do not have to marry in a place of worship, the park of your choice can double as both a ceremony and reception location. The downside of having you wedding in a park, or any other outdoor venue is the weather. Make sure you check the weather forecast before you make your final venue decision.

Popular Ideas For Low Cost Wedding Venues

In a similar style to hosting your wedding in a park you could also get married on a beach. This is particularly popular in summer time. Again, you will save money on decorations, as many beaches are very picturesque. Not only should you check the weather for your wedding day but also check the tides. The last thing you want is for your wedding to be washed away.

A great place to have your wedding reception is a local restaurant. Restaurants are used to catering for large numbers of people and if you are already a connoisseur of their cuisine at least you know what sort of food to expect. If it is quite a large restaurant you may be able to hire a private room out, alternatively, in a smaller restaurant, you are more likely to have to rent out the entire place for a few hours. This will vary greatly with the size of your wedding as well. If your reception will be held at a time of day when the restaurant is generally not too busy you are more likely to get a good deal. Also, why not ask if you can hire the place out for a party? Try not to let on that you are having a wedding until you have set a price in stone as the words "wedding reception" generally attract a higher price tag.

Finally, a great inexpensive location could be a college. Most colleges have very large rooms suitable for seating guests at a wedding. If you and your partner met a college, as many couples do, this could be a great way for you to put your own personal stamp on your wedding day.

Wedding Rings

Your wedding rings are a lasting reminder of your marriage and can remind you daily of your partner. They're as important a decision as choosing your wedding dress, so take your time and do some research before you buy them.

Traditionally, your wedding ring will match your engagement ring in colour and approximate style (and could be followed some years later by an eternity ring!) but it's totally up to you what you choose. Some people wear their wedding band on a chain around their neck, or wear their engagement and wedding rings separately, so they do not necessarily have to match. Your ring does not even have to be similar to your partner's, if your tastes are very different. What is important is the symbolism they provide, so have fun choosing!

The symbolism of a wedding ring stems from the infinite nature of an unbroken circle, signifying that you will stay a couple forever. Since Roman times, wearing your wedding ring on the fourth finger is important because they believed the vena amoris, a vein in the left ring finger, connected directly to the heart. A slightly less romantic history traces back to times when weddings were primarily to connect families rather than for love, and the exchange of valuables was a symbol of security to ensure the couple would be economically sound.

Wedding Rings

Some of the classic options available in terms of the material the ring is made from include various qualities of gold, silver, platinum and titanium, or even two different tones. You may want a precious stone, diamond or other decoration included in your wedding ring, or perhaps an engraving of your initials, names, date of your wedding or a special inscription made on the inside of the band.

Look online or visit some jewellers with your partner to see what is available within your budget and then find out your ring sizes by either being measured at a store or using a simple measuring tool at home (you can get these free or very cheaply online from jewellery stores). Measure first in the afternoon (since your fingers will be at their largest then due to the blood flow of your activity throughout the day) then again in the morning (when you are cool) to ensure that the size is still OK. Make sure you buy your rings at least a few months in advance of the wedding date to give you time to resize or exchange them if you're not entirely happy.

At your ceremony, your rings will be presented to you by somebody special, such as your best man or a page boy, and you might want to use a ring pillow or a special box for this purpose. Whatever you do, choose somebody trustworthy and reliable to look after your precious wedding rings on the day!

Think about insuring your wedding rings too, especially before you go away on your honeymoon. A staggering 1 in 4 newlyweds apparently lose their wedding ring within 5 years of getting married, and many manage to do so within the first few weeks while they're swimming or relaxing on their honeymoon!

Whereas most of your accessories on your wedding day will be chosen according to whether they compliment your wedding dress, your wedding ring is the one item that will definitely be worn separately after the event, so for once you can put all other wedding styles and colour-themes aside and choose something for its longevity!

A Bride's Guide to Tipping Wedding Vendors

When planning your wedding, you may wonder how much of your budget to put aside for gratuities and tips. You may not be sure who gets tipped or how much is customary to tip. Be sure to read all contracts that you sign with your vendors to make sure that you are aware if tipping is optional (at your discretion) or contractual. Some vendor contracts will automatically add a certain percentage to your bill to cover the customary standard gratuity.

Here is a breakdown of who you should tip and how much you should tip. Note these are only standard guidelines, you may choose to add more for exceptional service. You should prepare envelopes with the proper amounts already in them, addressed to the proper vendors.

Rehearsal Dinner - 20 percent of the total bill, many restaurants will add this onto the bill on larger parties.

A Bride's Guide to Tipping Wedding Vendors

Hairstylist / Make Up Artist / Nail Technician - It is customary to tip 15 to 20 percent of the total cost and should be paid once services are completed.

Musicians for the Ceremony - Standard tipping is to dollars per musician and is expected at the end of the ceremony. The father of the bride or the best man presents the envelope to the musicians.

Officiant for the Ceremony - Customary of 0 and up, or make a donation to the church or synagogue in which you are getting married. This contribution can be in addition to or in lieu of a tip. If tipping, have the father of the bride or the best man hand the envelope to the officiant right after the rehearsal or the ceremony.

Delivery Truck Drivers / Reception Set Up - This could include the cake delivery and set up, the floral set up, decoration set up, tent set up, etc... if the set up staff who is setting up is not a part of the reception staff. It is customary to tip to dollars per person depending on the difficulty of the set up. The person accepting the delivery should hand out the tips. If you will not be there during delivery or set up, you should tip either before or after, to the appropriate vendor.

Reception Staff - normally is eighteen to twenty percent of the final reception bill. This amount of tipping may seem like a lot to pay, but remember this is divided among all the staff who worked your event. It is usually paid when the balance of your reception bill is paid and is normally included in your contract. You may choose to give added gratuity for exceptional service on the day of your event after the reception.

Reception Musicians or DJs - Customary to tip 5 to 20 percent of the total cost. The father of the bride or the best man presents the envelope to the musicians at the end of the ceremony. You would tip a band 5 percent per musician (20 percent total for 5 musicians) and a DJ up to 20 percent of the total cost.

Reception Hall Maitre d' - or more for each of these staff members, depending on the amount of guests and total reception bill. The father of the bride or the best man presents the envelope to the Maitre d'.

Reception Bartenders - In addition to the amount specified in the contract, 10% of the total bar bill should be tipped to the bartenders. Have the cash in envelopes in advance and have maitre d' pass along the tip.

Powder Room / Coat Check / Parking Attendants - Should receive .50 cents to per guest attending. Have the cash in envelopes in advance and have maitre d' pass along the tip.

Transportation - It is customary to tip 20% of the total cost. Many limousine companies can offer you to pay in advance or to tip on the day the service is completed. Have the best man in charge of turning over the cash tip you prepared in advance.

Finally, the following vendors do not typically receive gratuities but you may certainly add them to the list if their service is outstanding: photographer, videographer, caterer, baker, jeweler, wedding consultant, seamstress, and florist.

Your Wedding Ceremony - Statements of Intent in Your Perfect Wedding Ceremony (Step 4)

There is a formula to writing a wedding ceremony, which if you follow it, can lead you to a perfectly wonderful ceremony that looks exactly like you and your relationship AND will help you create promises that you can live into your entire life together. If you slowly assemble your ceremony, working your way through the pieces, you can create exactly what you need and want. You can do this on your own or with the person who is celebrating your marriage.

Step Number Four: Statements of Intent. Before I started performing wedding ceremonies, I went off to the Seminary Library and did a lot of research. In almost every religious tradition, there was a section entitled Intentions. How wonderful, I thought, how DO you intend for this marriage to change your life, your relationship and your world? Well, of course, the religious institutions weren't interested in that. They wanted to know whether you would sign up for their understanding of marriage.

Many of my clients are not traditionally religious, but even if they are, and intend to have a traditional wedding ceremony, I believe that there needs to be a place in the wedding where the couple says, out loud, in their own words:

Your Wedding Ceremony - Statements of Intent in Your Perfect Wedding Ceremony (Step 4)

That they love their partner Why they fell in love with their partner What will keep them falling in love, over and over again, with their partner That they intend to be in love with their partner for the rest of their lives.

Weddings are full of priestly exhortations and threats about loving one another forever. Why not take this opportunity and be entirely yourself. Say I love you in your own way. Here are some general guidelines. Too much specificity allows you to copy rather than create.

Tell stories and draw conclusions about how you met Say what you knew then that you will live on forever Talk about what draws you to your partner Talk about why you believe that long-term marriage is important Talk about why you are committed to both long-term marriage and to this relationship

Sound like yourself. Share what you have to say before hand. Don't memorize. Have statements of similar length and keep both well under three short paragraphs. This may be the most important piece of the ceremony, and it's the only one where you speak in your words, but you'll be nervous, so pay attention to these suggestions.

Father of the Groom Wedding Toast - How to Floor the Audience and Sweep Everyone Off Their Feet

We get to see some of the greatest spectacles of all times when the time comes to deliver the father of the groom wedding toast. There are these horrorators who believe that the father of the groom wedding toast is the right time to embark on a long history trip down memory lane beginning at their son's birth. These historians just simply love to time travel in their speech.

And then there are the mirror types who believe they are the best thing to happen to the world and gab on and on about "I, me, myself" or the nonsensical chatterbox types or the goofy stand up in house comedian joker fathers who love to scandalize the guests with sexist or racist inappropriate one liners! Never mind if the guests are feeling offended or bored to the bones, never mind if the yawns are getting louder and the fidgeting around more evident.

I am sure you want to avoid being a horrorator of these types while trying to deliver your father of the groom wedding toast. So how do you give a proper decent father of the groom wedding toast? Check out below.
First of all, you have to welcome all the accumulated guests and sound the formal start to this celebration. Chart out a particular and very special tone of welcome for the bride and her family. Mention the fact that you are all eager to know the other family better, which will happen over the years. Don't forget to mention how happy you and your family are at your son's choice of a bride, that your daughter in law is a wonderful woman - the ideal daughter in law that any family could want. Then say a bit on your son and how proud you are to be his dad. Did you know a stupid or insensitive father of the groom wedding toast can completely spoil the mood of the party? Did you know 8 out of 10 fathers goof up on the podium while raising a toast to the newly weds? I am sure you don't want to be the party pooper in your son's wedding.

A Guide to Celebrating the 10th Wedding Anniversary

Traditionally, wedding anniversaries under the 20 year mark are usually acknowledged only by the couple themselves, however, today it's not unusual for gatherings and celebrations to take place as early as the fifth year. The tenth year of marriage marks the first full decade of life spent together, and many couples are choosing to mark the occasion with an anniversary party, while others prefer to acknowledge the day with their own private celebration. Either way, ten years of marriage is indeed something special to celebrate!

Celebrating Your 10th Anniversary Together

The actual time of year when your anniversary occurs will have a lot to do with your plans, as it's certainly much easier to plan a picnic or outdoor adventure in warmer weather, unless, of course, you're planning to celebrate skiing down a mountain or doing some other type of winter fun.

A Guide to Celebrating the 10th Wedding Anniversary

For a quiet, romantic night at home or away in a cozy cabin, first do a bit of research online to find out what the best movies were the year you got married, then rent a few, pop some popcorn, snuggle up and enjoy the evening. Likewise, you could either make your own or purchase a CD compilation of the top songs from the year and dance the night away together.

Since daffodils are the flowers associated with this anniversary, plan a completely daffodil-themed day, which won't be difficult to do as a quick search online offers countless choices for gifts, party supplies, trinkets, jewelry, and many other types of daffodil fare.

Visit the place you met and take a long, thoughtful walk down memory lane, remembering how it felt getting to know one another, falling in love, getting married, and enjoying the last ten years of your lives. As long as the two of you are together, it doesn't really matter what you actually do, or where you go, reveling in the day is often all really you need.

Renewing Vows on Your Ten Year Anniversary

Renewing your wedding vows is an excellent way of celebrating any anniversary, especially if you are now able to have a different type of wedding, or have the honeymoon you always wanted, but never had. Some couples choose to write their own vows, a sentimental few words expressing their love for one another, while others prefer to stick with traditional vows, or a shortened version thereof.

In general, vow renewal ceremonies are usually done further down the road after the 20th or other "milestone" anniversary. However, it's really a matter of personal preference and many couples do choose to mark their 10th year by exchanging vows again, either privately, or with their first bridal party present amongst family and friends. Some choose to have an intimate gathering, while others opt for a full blown gala complete with decorations, food, drinks, music, and plenty of laughter and memories.

Gift Ideas

Here are some theme ideas for celebrating a ten year anniversary:

- 10th Anniversary Color: Blue or silver

- 10th Anniversary Flower: Daffodils to symbolize cheerfulness, happiness, and joy

- 10th Anniversary Gemstones: Diamonds, blue sapphire

- 10th Anniversary Gift (Modern/Contemporary): Diamonds, diamond jewelry

- 10th Anniversary Gift (Traditional): Tin or aluminum to symbolize flexibility and malleability

Gifts could include any decorative item made from tin or aluminum, which would stand for the durability of the relationship, paying tribute to successfully withstanding the first ten years of marriage. Personalized items abound made from both tin and aluminum including paper weights, decorative wall scones and candle holders, or anything related to the daffodil. A simple picture of the daffodil in a tin frame would be the perfect 10th wedding anniversary gift.

As for gifts for each other, couples could choose from any number of dazzling pieces of blue sapphire or diamond jewelry, including bracelets, necklaces, pins, and rings.

A 10 Year Wedding Anniversary Party

When hosting or planning a 10 year anniversary party, keep in mind the previous symbols and colors when choosing the decorations and invitations.

Daffodils could be easily incorporated into the theme of the party, and while you may have trouble finding some that are reasonably priced if they're out of season in your area, craft stores are filled with realistic looking faux flowers and with a bit of imagination and creativity, the possibilities are endless to create many beautiful decorations. The colors silver and blue combine together wonderfully and represent the gemstones associated with the ten year anniversary; diamonds and blue sapphires, symbolizing durability and strength.

Some couples may feel uncomfortable at the thought of receiving gifts for their anniversary, if this is the case, simply request on the invitation that no gifts be given, and that all of the guests simply sharing in your special day is all the gift you need.

Another great idea is to request that in lieu of gifts and presents for the couple, guests should make a donation to a certain charity, or a specific one of their choice. This allows couples to celebrate their good fortune on their anniversary by spreading the love and wealth with others.

Your 18th Wedding Anniversary Inspiration in 9 Ideas

So, what are you planning on your 18th wedding anniversary?

Just because it does not fall under any milestone year, there is no reason to take the 18th wedding anniversary year lightly. Look at it this way -- you are just two years away from the 20th year, which is definitely a landmark!

When couples stick that long with one another, they almost begin to anticipate what the other person thinks, feels and wants. But, human nature being what it is, even though you know that she adores going to the mountains rather than the sea for holidays, did you know that of late her thoughts are increasing turning towards an ocean side villa? See, you didn't. So, back to the basics. The comfort level is enormous, but nothing like an element of surprise to rev up the romance, eh?

Your 18th Wedding Anniversary Inspiration in 9 Ideas

Interestingly, while most anniversary years have a list of traditional and contemporary gifts (making it so much easier for the husbands), the 18th year calls upon your creative and innovative skills. That's right. There is no traditional gift or flower associated with it, although the modern gift is porcelain, while the gemstones are cat's eye and opal.

So, here are some 18th wedding anniversary gift ideas that will have her throwing her arms around you in sheer delight:

1. Okay, so you have decided to play it safe and allow an expert to lead you -- at least you are sure of being on the right track, eh? The contemporary gift is porcelain - symbolising grace, aesthetic appeal and a delicate charm. Porcelain objects and artefacts can make classy gifts and always appear elegant -- so much like her.

2. Porcelain gift ideas - Is she fond of collecting porcelain figures? Hunt for some really exquisite and unique pieces to add to her growing repertoire. A personalised porcelain mug carrying a tender love message from you to her will make her morning cuppa so much more memorable! Or go the whole way and present her with a beautiful porcelain tea set. Other great options are a special photograph of the two of you in a porcelain mirror frame, porcelain vases and bowls.

3. Jewellery - This is a fairly safe wicket and a time-tested one at that! But, making the choice that much easier for you is the fact that cat's eye and opal are the two gemstones for the 18th wedding anniversary year. So, if you want to go strictly by tradition, pick jewellery which has either or both of these stones. Did you know - Cat's Eye is reputed to attract powerful blessings for its wearer, not the least of which are freedom from financial worries, ill-health and mental tension. It is also a remarkably tough gemstone -- a prophetic and befitting stone for this anniversary year. You could present her with a lovely ring set with a twinkling, gleaming Cat's Eye stone. Opal is another beautiful gemstone and embedded in a porcelain ring will make an exquisite ring.

4. Think out of the box - Go on a romantic picnic! Yes, why not? Picnics are not just for family and children, you know. If your anniversary happens to fall during pleasant weather, then make full use of Nature's benevolence! Pack a hamper filled with organic and gourmet goodies, a bottle of bubbly, juice, paper napkins, and tablecloth. Don't forget the digital camera -- you want to videotape the glorious moments. And, to add a touch of class to the proceedings, pack two porcelain mugs from which to drink your beverages!

5. Flowers - The 18th anniversary year does not cater to a special flower as such and so the filed is wide open. If you feel roses to be too predictable and repetitive, then go for some exotic blooms such as orchids or tulips. Better still, throw together a mixed bouquet of lovely flowers that symbolise the many hues and textures of your wedded life!

6. Trip down memory lane - Put together a memorable collection of all the special photographs over the last 18 years. They could be as poignant as a silhouette of hers capture when she wasn't looking or as naughty as the two of you caught in a passionate lip-lock! All packed in a porcelain box, of course.

7. Gourmet wining and dining - What with all the family responsibilities, raising kids, making a career and all the rest of it, you can count on the fingers of one hand the last time the two of you really splurged just on yourselves. Well, your 18th anniversary is the perfect occasion to stop counting pennies and make a splash. Book a corner table at a swanky restaurant (or, even a local popular one, if you want), and arrange with the manager to have candles and cake on your table on the big night. The fact that you can still mange to be so romantic even after 18 years would be the icing on the cake for her.

8. Declare your love -- again! When was the last time that you said, 'I love you' to her? This does not include that while-reading-the-newspaper variety where you were engrossed in the latest stock market crash while mechanically mouthing niceties. Or absently mumbling it while dropping a quick kiss while on your way to work. No, this refers to the goose-bumpy, looking-deeply-into-her-eyes variety. When was the last time -- last week, last month, last year....forget it. Do it now! While multitasking as a wife, mum, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, etc, she has probably forgotten what it is to be just a woman. And while she is still recovering from the unexpected (but delicious) assault on her senses, whip out a velvet box in which nestles your anniversary gift.

9. A forerunner for the next ten years! That's right. Nothing eases a woman's mind quite so much as the assurance that her man is hers for keeps. And if that assurance is in more or less continuous supply, why then, she isn't asking for anything else. Make plans for your lives together for the next, say, ten years. Plan a bigger house, a new business, or anything else that shows that she will always be an important part of your life. Involve her in every step of the planning, take her advice and make her feel special.

Now that you are aware of the prerequisites for a grand 18th wedding anniversary celebration, what are you waiting for? Go out there and floor her!

Sri Lankan Wedding Traditions & Sri Lankan Bride's Dress

Sri Lankan religious and cultural traditions feature a second reception after the couple's honeymoon. The family of the groom gives these receptions. It is known as a homecoming, and signifies the bringing back of a bride by the groom. Brides left their homes and joined the groom, a practice still widely held in rural areas and villages. Nowadays, most wedded couples opt to build their own homes, though at times there is a period of living at the groom's home until enough resources are saved for the move into their own homes. Grooms are known to live with their bride's family at times.

As with many similar Asian traditions of culture, Sri Lankan grooms and brides change into different types of dress at the conclusion of the reception. Like in the British tradition, this change of Sri Lankan bridal dress is named the going away dress, which is worn when the wedded couple are about to exit to their Toronto honeymoon. The Sri Lankan bridal dress is much more formal than the western tradition of dress, not unlike the bridal clothing, but can be of different colors and styles. This practice of changing the bridal dress to the going away clothing spans almost all Sri Lankan religions and cultures.

Sri Lankan Traditional Sari

Sri Lankan Wedding Traditions & Sri Lankan Bride's Dress

There are four traditional silk saris worn during a Toronto Sri Lankan wedding. The first is worn at the ceremony of thalee, and features red and yellow colors, with a wide border. The second is worn following the marriage ceremony, and is known as Innaik Koorai, which features rose, yellow or muskat colors. The sari worn to the official Toronto ceremony of marriage registration is the third one, and his family pays these three saris on behalf of the groom.

The final Sri Lankan bridal dress sari is paid foe by the bride herself and is worn to the arrival ceremony of the wedding day's wedding stage. The bride's family also pays for a silk set of Salvai and Vesti to present at the wedding stage, for wearing at the marriage registration, which are a shirt and trouser for the groom. The groom presents the silk sari to the bride, as well with further traditional items following the pooja stage of the ceremony. This happens in between the changing of this Sri Lankan bridal dress sari for the ceremony of thalee wearing.

Along with the bride's attire (sari), there also includes a headpiece or veil, accessories such as gloves, under slips and shoes. Further accompaniments include the bridal jewelry and the bridal dressing, which includes makeup and hair. This is repeated for the going away and homecoming ceremonies. The bridesmaids and flower girls also receive wedding Sri Lankan bridal dress saris, along with all the accessories, makeup and hair, and jewelry.

Bridegroom Marriage Dress

The bridegroom selects appropriate wedding attire for him and the male ceremony party, including the best men and Paige boys, for the various ceremonies. The wedding assistants at the Toronto wedding hall or temple also get offered with wedding attire, as are the traditional Toronto ceremony musicians.

Most people are aware that significant wedding anniversaries such as 25th and 40th are linked to precious stones, in these cases silver and ruby. However, it is less well known that all anniversaries up to and including the 15th, and then every 5th anniversary, have their own particular symbol. The list below shows the symbol traditionally associated with each anniversary.

The Silver (25th) and Golden (50th) Anniversaries appear to be the most traditional. In Central Europe going back hundreds of years a man would present his wife with a silver or golden garland to mark the occasion of their anniversary.

The other materials have been added to the list more recently, and there is now a more modern list which incorporates the missing years 16-19. Amazingly, a ten carat diamond has been added for a 100th Wedding Anniversary! How many couples will get that far?

The traditional version is still preferred by most people.
